From home alterations to new homes and light commercial construction, we have over 30 years’ experience in this industry - as a self-employed builder working on residential and light commercial projects, then as an Architectural Designer. Edge Design Studio offers creative Architectural Design with practical knowledge and experience of the construction process.

Our goal is to exceed your expectations.  We do that by listening to you, providing sound honest advice, with on-trend knowledge and skills, that will bring your vision to life, and remain within your budget.  Your finished project will be functional, visually appealing and energy efficient, with design and materials that fit the environment it sits on.

In 2010, Dylan and Sandra started their new architectural design business Edge Design Studio Limited, in Hamilton, New Zealand. After many years working on the tools of the trade, Dylan made the move into designing after recognising there was a gap in the industry for creative architectural designers, who held practical knowledge. In 2015, the family moved to the beautiful Wairarapa for a lifestyle change, and of course, the business moved also.

The office is located alongside the family home, with views over Lake Wairarapa and the Remutaka Forest.  Edge Design Studio’s new Wairarapa client base has grown steadily, and, not wanting to lose Dylan, his Hamilton clients remain onboard, with Dylan travelling regularly to meet with them, and view their projects.

As a small business, we know our clients well, work alongside them on their projects and celebrate successful outcomes. We treat all our clients and their work as if it were our own home – we will offer sound, practical advice, while creating the home you have always imagined.

Dylan worked as a self-employed builder for over 15 years. He and his teams worked on housing new builds and alterations, light commercial and retail projects..  After completing his Architectural Design Diploma, he successfully transitioned into a new role as a Designer and quickly gained a reputation as a creative and skilled Architectural Designer.

Dylan brings his experience with both sides of the design and build process to every project, and his clients appreciate the ability he has to plan ahead, keep within budget, offer alternate ideas to consider, provide honest advice.  Builders and councils compliment Dylan on the quality of the working drawings, and his attention to detail.

Dylan is passionate about meeting his client’s needs, working in a sustainable way, using new technologies, and creating appealing and functional buildings that the owners are proud of.

In 2017, due to the growth of Edge Design Studio since relocating to the Wairarapa, Utia was asked to join the team, as a Junior Architectural Designer. While Utia completes his Diploma, he works alongside Dylan, assisting with the completion of working drawings.  Utia’s friendly, flexible, and helpful nature helps the team reach their deadlines and milestones.
